Overview
[18F]FFMZ (2'-[18F]fluoroflumazenil) is a positron emission tomography (PET) radiopharmaceutical developed by RadioMedic. It is a derivative of flumazenil, a benzodiazepine receptor antagonist, radiolabeled with fluorine-18. The tracer binds with high affinity to the benzodiazepine site of the GABA(A) receptor complex. It is designed for the non-invasive imaging of GABAergic system changes associated with various pathologies. Primary research areas include neurodegenerative conditions like Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy, where GABA receptor density may be altered. It is also being investigated for peripheral applications such as pulmonary ischemia and as a tool for monitoring chemotherapy efficacy.
